IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING THE BENEFIT PLAN!

As a plan member, you and your eligible dependents are entitled to Benefits under this plan, as long as you are a member in good standing with your union and are in benefit at the date of service.

An eligible spouse is defined as: 

  • Your spouse, legal or common-law (a common-law relationship must include continuous cohabitation and public representation of married status. A common-law spouse is not eligible to claim for expenses until the first day of the month following 12 months after they are added as a dependent on the Application From.)

An eligible spouse does not include: 

  • A person divorced from the member. 
  • A person separated from the member, with or without a court order, if the parties are living separate and apart.

In the event of a marriage breakdown, your spouse’s coverage terminates the day you are no longer residing together.

Based on the above information it is imperative that members contact the NB Pipe Trades Administration Office immediately if there is a change in their marital status. Failure to do so may result in the member being responsible for reimbursing the NB Pipe Trades Health & Welfare Plan for claims paid beyond the date of separation. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact our office.
